Botanical Illustration

Lifelike, naturalistic portrayal of plants has presented a challenge to generations of artists & illustrators. From Dutch flower painters of the past to present day botanical illustrators, capturing the essence of a plant in its natural form offers plenty of scope for artists/plant lovers. This course, through adopting a step by step approach, should be of particular appeal to those with an interest in, but little experience of the subject but can also benefit those wanting to develop existing skills.

Ceramics - Pottery & Jewellery Making

A combined group where you will have the opportunity to experience both disciplines, or stick to the media of your choice.
On alternative weeks learners will be given a demonstration of either a pottery or jewellery making technique. Following this they then work on their preferred project.
In Jewellery Making you will learn bead and pendant making techniques to create your own range of unique beads as well as producing basic pendants and jewellery forms using an enamel kiln.You will also learn to design and create complicated bead constructions and incorporate precious stones into your unique pieces.
In Pottery learners will be given an introduction to the basic ceramic techniques including coil building, slab building, pinch potting, whell throwing and modelling for sculpture. It also includes an introduction to basic design principles.

Exploring Indian Textiles Using Recycled Materials

This course is sutable for the beginner and more experienced textile artist, as we will be exploring a wealth of posibilities. We will learn about printing with traditional Indian printing blocks, dye fabric and discover how applique kantha and shisha (Indian mirror tiles ) are stitched. The rich colours and textures of Indian textiles will inspire us to design and create a personal piece of work. A basic sewing kit (pins, needles and threads) is all that is needed for the first two sessions.

Life Drawing Classes

The cornerstone of art practice. The human body offers every challenge an artist could require; line and tone, perspective and composition. This course will introduce you to a number of approaches to life drawing with the emphasis on the development of spontaneity and freedom of expression. For a complete beginner this is a valuable introduction to life drawing, while the more experienced will enjoy fresh challenges and revisit fundamental principles. It is also an excellent opportunity to build your portfolio in preparation for University or Foundation Courses. Cost includes model fee but excludes materials.

Watercolour Painting & Drawing Skills

This course is aimed at beginners and those who can already paint. Learn about colour mixing, laying down washes, wet into wet, pencil drawing and experimenting with water colour.
A fun and relaxed way of painting from photographs, pictures or your own sketches on a variety of subjects. You will need to bring your own materials.
